The art of fashion designing has found a new direction with haute couture. The concept ‘haute couture’ came into reality in the 19th century with Charles Frederick Worth who is known as the ‘father of haute couture’. With the passage of time Haute couture has become the mark of luxury. It adds a new dimension to fashion. The history of fashion would never be the same without the likes of Giorgio Armani, Christen Dior, Versace, Roberto Cavalli and many others who have enriched the trade of haute couture with their excellent works.

The French phrase for ‘high fashion’ seems to define the dress code at every big event and parties today including the Red Carpet Fashion Award. So it is useless to say that the combination of ‘haute’, that is, high and ‘couture’, the needlework must be elegant and imply excellence in the artistry of dressmaking. Top rated designers who set the fashion trend worldwide work for their own labels while some choose to work with leading fashion houses such as Chanel, Elie Saab, Calvin Klein, Dior and so on.

A wardrobe filled with exclusive designer collection is everyone’s dream. But high fashion comes at even higher cost. Buying couture garments is not within everyone’s reach. Haute couture is designed only for the top level clientele who can afford such expensive designer wears sold at thousands of dollars. But for us, we can only watch the models taking the ramp in haute couture garments at the fashion week.

Depending on the name of the brand or the fashion designer a couture outfit can cost from about $15000 to $60000 and sometimes more than that. If you think from the artistic point of view it is understandable why the price is so high. The service comprising craftsmanship, originality of design and use of superior quality materials and exclusive colors can only be remunerated with that amount.

Creativity at its ultimate, haute couture involves use of top quality fabrics and leather. Smooth silk, linens and super fine cotton to add comfort in summer fashion while finest of wools, leather and furs are used for designer winter clothing. Since the 19th century haute ensures unique design and perfect finish for each and every piece of clothe. Perfection is achieved by time consuming and painstaking process of designing, cutting and sewing keeping in mind the measurement of client’s figure, body postures and personality.

We often see exclusively designed and carefully interlined made-to-order dresses flattering the beauty of our super rich celebrities. High-fashion designer dress helps to convey individual’s style statement that makes one stand out among the extra-ordinaries. From clothing to jewelries to accessories celebs spend millions of dollars for designer collection that defines them from tips to toe.

Not anymore limited within the arena of dressmaking haute couture is spreading its wings to jewelry designing and fashion accessories too. For example, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry is a hot favorite among the Hollywood fashion moguls. Accessories starting from hats and belts to buttons and trappings are also crafted to complement the attire.

Fashion industry thrives on change. So, the cult of haute couture is all about innovating new styles and setting the latest fashion trends for garments as well as jewelries. Those who afford haute couture are happy to pay for distinctive style, uniqueness of design and the exclusivity offered with it.

Woman fashion is not just about wearing fashionable and designer clothing. Fashion is something which every woman should associate herself with. The fashion style of an urban woman should go in consistency with fashion trend and her personality. The fashion statement of any woman depends upon body frame, skin tone, comfort level and personal attitude.

Fashion tips

Body frame: Suppose you are plump then it is better not to wear sleeveless cuts. Go for light color shades, small prints and vertical line prints as these prints give a slimmer look. Heavy cotton fabric material should be avoided and go for chiffon and georgette fabric.
Skin tone: Gold or copper color clothes and accessories would look wonderful on a fair complexion. For a wheatish or medium colored skin, mixed shades of white, beige and bronzy golden look good. Dark skin toned should go for goldenish copper shades.
Personal attitude and comfort level: While determining style, comfort level and your personal attitude count a lot. If you are not comfortable wearing a particular outfit even if it makes you look drop dead gorgeous do not wear it. Every style should coincide with your personality.

Accessories

The range of woman fashion accessory encompasses everything. Accessories embellish a woman from head to foot like distinct kinds of fashionable hair accessory, beautiful bindis, costume jewelry, fashionable handbags for women, designer wristwatches, elegant eyewear, scarves, stoles, shawls, belts, anklets, shoes.

Today’s fashionable women have very well understood the power of the accessory. Women’s fashion accessories be always be trendy. Instead of a buying a new suit every year or season, it is better to dress up a classic suit with accessories and buying them is more than buying a new suit each season. So, women are ready to take risks with their purchases of accessories more than their clothing. These accessories are all great fashion symbols, helping you to get the perfect hot sizzling look.

Trendy fashion is a lot of fun. Without trendy fashion, we’d all be wearing the same things from one season to the next. It would certainly save us a lot of money, but it would make fashion, and even life in general, pretty boring. So trends are a good thing, but that’s not the whole story: sometimes fashion trends come along that are inexplicably awful. For some reason they catch on, and before you know it everyone is leaping on board with a new trend that just looks utterly hideous. Please, be one of the people who stands up to these trends and just says no. To help, we present here four trendy fashion trends that everyone should avoid:

Â

#1 A woman’s fashion to avoid: Ugg boots, particularly in public and with shorts

Â

As far as we’re concerned, ugg boots have one purpose and one purpose alone: to keep your feet really warm by encasing them in wool. They’re not a fashion item and they should never be treated as such. For some inexplicable reason, however, ugg boots have gained popularity in some circles as something you might wear outside on a warm day. We appreciate that trendy fashion isn’t always logical, but this is going too far: pairing skimpy shorts with ultra warm foot wear just doesn’t make any sense. Are you cold or are you hot? Make up your mind, and then dress appropriately.

Â

#2 A woman’s fashion to avoid: Crocs when you’re not on a boat

Â

Ah, Crocs. Exactly how Crocs became popular is one of life’s great unsolved mysteries. For sure, they have their uses. A pair of Crocs would be ideal on a boot, say, or when engaged in river activities like fishing or rafting. We even heard about a plan to provide them to needy people in Africa as durable footwear, which also sounds like a good idea. But wearing them out to brunch on a Sunday morning? It’s awful. The bottom line is, they’re really ugly, and will never be trendy fashion.

Â

#3 A woman’s fashion to avoid: Metallic blue tights

Â

If anyone is wondering whether or not they should buy or wear a pair of metallic blue tights, they should stop and ask themselves one simple question: am I a superhero? If ‘no’, put them down and walk away. We know that superheroes are hot right now, but that doesn’t mean anyone should dress like one, even just from the waist down. This is a trendy fashion no-no!

Â

#4 A woman’s fashion to avoid: Double denim: top and bottom

Â

Everyone loves jeans. They’ve been around since the 1950s, they’re cheap, cool, and durable. And they’re made of denim. With that sort of background, it was only natural that people were going to start making and wearing denim jackets. But denim jackets are clearly a casual fashion item, and what does everyone wear on their bottom half on casual occasions? Why jeans, of course. So people started doubling their denim, and a trendy fashion trend was born. Well, in reality the trend was born when people started to argue that wearing all-denim was a good idea. Here is some news for those people: it’s not a good idea. It never, ever, looks good. Yes, this means that your denim jacket will probably never get worn, but that’s just too bad.

The fashion world has long been filled with glitz and glamour. The ramp for models is always long, dramatic, and well-lighted. The walk is certainly a walk for fame, fortunately for aspirants but sometimes leading to a walk for shame. Who is behind all these promises and/or even breakdowns? No less than the fashion designers.

What, exactly, does a fashion designer do?

Basically, with streaks of talent, creativity, and sensitivity, fashion designers, as if influenced by Rumpelstiltskin, craft accessory and clothing sketches. They usually concentrate in one nature of accessory or garment such as women’s or men’s apparels, swimwear, lingerie, children’s garments, handbags, and even shoes. They, sometimes, lead the groundwork of the creation and promotion of their creations.

Famous fashion designers prefer to be self-employed and they cater for the request of their clients. Some cater to high-fashion department stores or to specialty stores. They establish fashion statements by setting the colors, silhouette, and type of materials that are worn each season.

There are also some designers who are employed by manufacturers of clothes. These designers just adapt fashion statements set by other designers for the market. However, there are small manufacturers who just purchase or copy designs.

Both designers sketch unique garments and follow certain trends in fashion. Likewise, both need assistants who should get used to the fast-paced schedule of the fashion business.

In detail, these designers execute the following tasks:

•	Draw their unique designs.

•	Create patterns for sample garments.

•	Choose textile and add-ons (accessories).

•	Apply tailoring and basic dressmaking principles along with draping techniques and flat pattern works.

•	Fit and alter the completed product, if necessary.

•	Set-up a fashion show.

•	Compare the performance of the merchandise against the competitors.

•	Keep self up-to-date of latest fashion trends thru magazines and other fashion shows.

•	Have frequent trips to fabric showrooms to keep self updated of latest type of fabrics.

Actually, fashion designers can be categorized as follows:

1.	Lead or Head Designers

They take care of the executive and creative tasks.

2.	Assistant or Apprentice Designers

They usually make patterns and sample garments. They may also teach sample makers how to make patterns and designer garments.

      3. Specialty Designers

They coordinate with other designers about special lines of garments.

4.	Costume or Theatrical Designers

They usually create costumes used in theater and movie productions on a contractual basis.

The foundations for their creations are their knowledge, skills, and abilities honed in fashion schools and trainings in the long run.

•	Basic Design – This refers to technical know-how included in the creation and use of technical blueprints, drawings, plans, and models.

•	Idea Production – This is the ability of designers to approach problems creatively and resourcefully.

•	Dynamic Learning – This is being able to analyze implications of new information and materials at hand.

•	Operations Scrutiny – This is considering requirements of products to execute a design.

•	Uniqueness – This pertains to unusual cleverness vis-à-vis trying situations.

•	Harmonization – This is being able to having good coordination with others.

•	Visioning – This is being able to see how an organization works under real conditions.

The talents and skills of these artists are really important in the fashion industry. The work requires an eye for a striking creation and business management. Thus, aside from the portfolio of their usually creations, formal education help these designers acquire the secrets of the trade in this business. In fact, graduation from a college or school that provides training on fashion and design is highly recommended in the industry, to keep incoming designers updated on the advent of new techniques and technologies.

However, some leaders of this industry view vocational training schools and community college as more capable of producing competent artists because these institutions work along with clothing industries.

Vocational schools provide trainings in sketching, draping and grading, pattern making, garment construction, textiles and trimmings, costume history, principles of design and color; and how to plan and market seasonal fashion lines.

High school students inclined in fashion and design should finish basic courses in arts, sewing, mathematics, speech, English, and business.

Usually, vocational institutions provide a two-leveled program with certificate that is consonant to the degree in Associate of Arts. For those who want to enter the fashion field immediately, a first level certificate of proficiency is provided. The next level of proficiency, the second-level requires a greater time of completion. But upon graduation, artists are considered competent enough to aim for positions as Assistant Designers. After all the necessary formal trainings and specializations, those who have the guts and high hopes spin gold fabrics!
