Appreciate What An Induction Kit Can Do To Your Car Engine

Simply described, induction kit is a way to ensure fresh cold air to your car engine. This is relevant for car tuning, because cold air has more oxygen content to boost the combustion process of the fuel, and hence the efficiency of engine. It involves air filter and various tools on it to raise the cold air supply to engine.

And it also leads to complications of various sorts. The same cannot be true for large and small cars alike. The shape and size of engines matters. The type of the air filter employed, dealing with engine bay temperatures also matter in application of induction kit to any car.

As far as the filtering material is concerned, it is in general slightly-oiled cotton gauze filtering that works best. But practically, it may be sponge filter with dirt retentive spray and other modern gauze filters that would work the best for fast cars. It may seem against common logic, but slight oiling of the filtering material is helpful improve the airflow through filters. Beyond the above options, multilayered fine metallic mesh may also be a good. All these prove to be better options than paper filters.

It should be noted carefully that the oil should be slight in amount. Too much of it may cause problems. Mass air flow sensor should be coated with slight amount of oil, and it should be cleaned frequently. Air induction kits are designed in a way they could replace the air box of the mainstream cars. The only negative element is the noise created by the kit.

But this replacement of air intake box with the kit is not preferable for small cars. It is because of the high temperatures under the bonnet. An additional mechanism is required here to control this temperature. It can be an intercooler on turbo cars. But small non-turbo engines may lose the power on installing induction kit instead of improving it. A direct replacement panel air filter may be a solution that goes with standard airbox.

A mechanism like a feed pipe that could help sucking of cold air from outside is also needed. Airbox helps temperatures drop sooner on initial miles driven. Without airbox, temperature doesn’t drop till the car has covered some 2 miles.

In nutshell, it is good to have induction kit with a cold air feed pipe in case you have a large engine car or one with low to mid-range torque, in general. Prefer sports panel air filter for your small engine car with lower powers in lower revolution range.
